Senior Golfer Katie Page Succeeds On and Off the Course

Senior golfer Katie Page led her team to another state final this year and left her mark on the Sacred Heart community.

Page first started playing golf with her dad and older brother; they showed her the ropes and helped get her going. She wanted to join in watching them play and saw how much fun they were having. Years later her hard work paid off; she will continue her golf career at Southern Methodist University in Texas.

After long seven hour tournaments on Saturdays, Page always finds time to get her homework done on Sundays. She explained how it is essential to have good time management in order to have a balance of both sports and school. Proving that Page knows how to manage school and golf, is the fact she became a member of the 2012 HP Scholastic Junior All-American Team. The 2012 HP Scholastic Junior All-American Team is a combination of twelve boys and twelve girls that are honored at the Rolex Junior All-American Awards Banquet in November. This event takes place at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. In order to be eligible to play for this team, Page had to place in the top five. Katie’s admittance into the selected team also included many factors such as GPA, class rank, community service, and standardized test scores. Page and the other twenty-three members of the team are also eligible to play in the Polo Gold Junior Classic which, according to Page, is one of the most “prestigious events in junior golf.” Along with being selected to be on this team, Katie Page also won the essay contest by writing a poem titled “My Last AJGA Tour.”

Page played field hockey her freshman year but she felt golf to be more a team sport which is kind of ironic she explained. “I really like the whole team atmosphere of the individual sport” she said. If you are not doing well in one area as an individual you can help your team out in another area. “Golf is such a long game, you have to have patience” she explained.

As a beginner, patience and determination is the key in finding success. This is true on and off the course. Page displays these qualities which have helped her achieve her goals and become the student and golfer she is today.
