SHA Ghost Hunter: Bob Casey Searches for the Supernatural
The thought of ghosts frightens most people; the idea that we may not be alone in an old empty building gives us the chills. However, to former computer apps teacher Bob Casey, ghosts and ghost hunting is a favorite hobby.
Mr. Casey first became intrigued by the idea of ghost hunting when he began to watch shows such as Ghost Hunters; thus ghost hunting was added to his bucket list.
He was told that “he had to have a coat, had to have walking shoes, and he had to be comfortable” and this was when he went on his first visit to Waverly Hills.
While on his first tour of Waverly, a former TB clinic and asylum, he saw a shadowy figure of a man on the balcony. Casey said the figure was a “tall, thin man with a baseball cap”. This was the first time he saw an actual ghost and the reason he became hooked. What the owners of Waverly say he saw was a homeless man who had died while Waverly Hills was closed.
While there however, he was never really scared. He said “being scared is all in your head…it’s just like walking through an empty building”.
When they went back for the ghost hunting tour his wife was in the morgue and captured a picture of the morgue door with what he described as “people looking back at you”. Another man they were with said he sat and watched “for ten minutes while a ball just went around in a circle” on a floor where a child ghost named Timmy is said to be.
Mr. Casey’s other experiences with ghosts include ghost hunting in people’s homes. He says that most people “live comfortably with ghosts” in their house and that they become like “a member of the family”. The idea of ghosts was never foreign to him and that he was always open to the idea, it was when he saw that first shadow that he believed in them.
For any people interested in ghosts Mr. Casey says that all you need to start is “a small flash light, a digital recorder and a camera.” You need the flash light to see where you are going on the steps, the digital recorder to record different sounds, and the camera to capture pictures while in the dark. His final advice is to not go in scared, “because if you go in scared, you are going to be scared.”
Since Waverly is considered to be one of the most haunted places in the U.S., the tour he recommends for beginners is a historical tour at Waverly from 8pm until 10pm on Friday nights. The cost of it is $22 and you only have to be over the age of thirteen. While there the Waverly security personnel are with you the entire time.
